The Divide

There is a broad chasm between the battle lines drawn between Democrats and Republicans. With each election cycle, the distance between the two seems to stretch further to the point we can barely see the people, it has become simply us vs. them. If there is an endgame to this, it seems certain it will not be one where our country emerges as the winner.

What if a movement could begin that restored our ability to see the people instead of their political party? Put another way, what if we could learn to be Divided Together? Who would be part of such an effort?

Who is this community for?

  • For those who care deeply about our country but are tired of all the yelling. (Passion is good, personal attacks are not.)
  • For those wanting to reject messaging that encourages or assigns hatred towards our fellow Americans over political differences. (Disagreement does not, by itself, equal hate.)
  • For those who believe in the dignity of our shared humanity and want to see a return of civility in political conversations. (Both online and in real life.)
  • For those willing to take off our ‘team jerseys’ long enough to identify and work together for the common good. (Many political divides are over how to achieve shared goals, not the goals themselves.)
  • For those open to having our beliefs and perspectives challenged in constructive dialogue instead of divisive debate. (We can disagree without being disagreeable.)
  • For those who recognize the things that unite us should always be stronger than those used to divide us. (It may take work to find them, but that kind of work is worth it.)

If you read any of the above, and thought – Yes, that’s me! This community and movement are for you. No tricks, no partisan ploys, just people willing to find ways to stand together even when we feel miles apart! How do we start?
